Small Step Versus Big Step

We usually think of successful progress as a series of small forward steps. At school you go from level one, to level two, to level three, etc.. In the workforce, you may go from assistant, to worker, to supervisor, to lower management, etc.—a series of small forward steps. Don't be locked into this designated progress. Don't let other people's idea of progress limit your progress.

I purchased a two-bedroom rental property that was in a group of eight residences. After the initial purchase, it became evident to me that this residence was an exceptional deal. The purchase was highly geared (I had borrowed nearly all the price) and yet the rent more than covered costs—it was positively geared—it was making me money! So I sent a letter to each of the other seven unit owners and offered a bit more than I had paid for my unit. Two owners took me up on my offer. One was fully furnished and the owner threw in all the furniture and electrical goods for free. This was a great deal. After doing the calculations for one rental property, I ended up with three. Small forward steps are great; however, occasionally a giant leap forward is the correct choice. Have the courage not to limit your progress.

Tired of your current supervisor's job, waiting for the next opportunity to scramble to the next rung on the ladder? Take a leap; shoot for a managerial position at another company.

Sometimes it's easier to take a giant leap rather than a small step. Every successful person has been told, “You can't do that!” The world has many more You-can't-do-that people than Yes-I-think-you-cando-that people.

**If the Vulture world had you-can't-do-that vulture, they would be saying, Live from rat to rat. You will never get to dine on an elephant. Look at yourself. You are a big ugly bird and the best you will ever get to eat is a rat, a mouse or maybe a dead snake. Be happy with this! Leave the elephants and buffalos for the lions.

**Don't listen to people who tell you, “You can't do that!” unless you use it as motivation to prove them wrong.**
